Oh Deer! I Tried Painting.

You know one of those moments when you secretly hope and wish to be a person of better tastes. You try stuff that's new to you and you pretend you're a natural at it. It could be acquiring a new sport, a new company of friends, a new genre of literature, a new accent maybe..yaaa knowww! :D

 Well here's what I did last weekend. I got my self a larger than life canvas..ehem..paint brushes..charcoal pencils..all set to draw the most intimidating antlers resting on the head of a deer staring boldly into your headlights.

My inspiration was this stunning project I found here.

It started off pretty well.

I went free hand with the sketch.

Until..it had eyes of its own.

I drew a cross between Paris Hilton's chihuahua and Bambi.

Not being satisfied..I went ahead and smothered the charcoal with acrylic paint. Not a good combination I learnt.

By this time my son had crossed his speed limits and was in his pre bedtime hyperactivity zone. So I left my piece of refined statement art as it is.

I was stressed about it not turning out as good as I had trusted myself.

Scrambling : Wall Art

Yes that's what we called it back in college. Scrambling. All you need to do is to scramble a rough pattern onto your work surface with a pencil.

 I used normal card paper.

 I have done this before, filling the entire spaces of the resulting pattern with either monochromatic or analogous colors. This time however, I chose to fill in only a few spaces and then erase the remaining pencil lines. 

I did plan to use paint but while I was looking for my black paint In the box I got hold of a black permanent marker..and changed my mind.

This was much quicker like 2 minutes!

Simple piece of bold abstract art. Totally my style!

Watercolor and Paper Collage on Canvas

I was aspiring to try out watercolors. Had a canvas laying around..but was low on my original idea generation skills..so I did a quick search for some inspiration and instantly wanted to try this art design that I found on Etsy.

Just under an hour later I had my own version ready to go on my empty red wall.

I loved the ink used by the artist and the geometric pattern was what caught my eye in the first place-

I had this second hand book which I got because of its aged paper and the font. I tore some pages and modpodged them.

I also used a tea stain to add a vintage hint.

 When asked my my husband what I would call this painting..as if I was a fine art master...the first response that came to my mind was a proverb in Urdu...'Darya ko Kozay Mein Band Kar '

When forced to explain further (imagine the the effort he was putting in to show his interest in  artwork. Almost ridiculously funny!! )

End result..well kind of ok..but I knew I wont come up with a fine piece. I only wanted to experiment and have fun trying to be avant garde!

Blue Pyramids of Giza

I apologize for the grandiose title..I am in a high aesthetic mood. So unlikely of me :p

Ok so this is another one from pinterest...I saw it and I knew I was going to try. So one Grey morning I woke up and found my self in the right mood to do some potato stamping! I already had a canvas laying around and some acrylic paints too.

• I could have done a better job with it but I was not looking for perfection..just having some fun with paint on my hands..I will look up the original link but heres what i did..

• I mixed black and blue and did a base coat with a clean rag. I did it as unevenly as possible to add variation of black and blue. I did not wait for it to dry..my tod was about to wake up!!

• I cut a potato into half and then made a triangle stamp from one side, using a sharp knife. That done, I plopped some white paint onto a paper plate and a drop of black too. 

• Then using white as the basic color to stamp I continued making rows of triangles. Alternatively, I used a little of the base paint and black too..not worrying about the shade..I wanted it to be uneven.

A quick 15 Min project to do on slow paced days.
